WSET Level 3 in Wines Award is an advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for keen wine enthusiasts.
For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality.
Once successfully completed you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.
These are ideal for trade professionals and wine enthusiasts.
What you'll learn
Unit 1
- The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
- How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal still wines of the world, sparkling wines of the world and fortified wines of the world
- How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality
Unit 2
- How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)If you are an employer wishing to train your staff this course will equip them with knowledge and understanding of a wide range of products.
Assessment
Unit 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a paper of short written answers.
Unit 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines.
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual
Entry Requirements and Course Expectations.
It is recommended that you hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines.
The course will be taught with the understanding that all students have the equivalent level of knowledge.
You will need to ensure you are available on all of the course dates.
As part of the course you will be expected to complete and hand in home study in order to prepare you for the theory exam. This will help the tutor assess your readiness for the exam. Students who do not complete this work may not be entered for the exam on this cohort.

The course is delivered over:-
1 x 2hr pre-course online session (10am-12pm)
5 full day sessions (10am - 5pm)
Final exam day is 10am - 1.30pm
WSET recommends at least 54 hours of home study in addition to the 30 hours of classroom sessions.
The fee includes
- Students will receive the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course study pack. The course study pack consists of the course text book (a comprehensive guide to the wines of the world) this will be posted prior to the course start date, a study guide (complete with maps, example questions and forms for your own tasting notes), course specification document and a laminated tasting card.

- The use of professional ISO tasting glasses
- 5 days of professional WSET tuition by a WSET Certified tutor
Teaching of the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT) ® which will enable you to analyse wines objectively and consistently in preparation for the tasting exam - Two fully marked mock tasting exams and weekly written exam technique sessions to ensure you are fully prepared for the exam
- Comprehensive online student support by WSET certified educator outside of class time should you have any questions before, during and after the course
- Registration with WSET and all examination fees
- Internationally-recognised certificate and pin badge upon successful completion
