The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course is the perfect starting point for anyone with little or no experience of wine or wine tasting. If you'd love to get to grips with the wonderful world of wine, and gain an internationally recognised official qualification at the same time, this fun 1-day course is for you!
It's an ideal taster if you are thinking about a career change and a move into the drinks industry, or a simply looking for an informative and enjoyable day discovering a fascinating subject. All welcome.
You'll learn about:
- Wine tasting: taste and describe wine like a pro - using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting® (SAT)
- Types and styles of wine: what makes different wines taste different from each other
- Grape varieties: the characteristics of the world's most important grape varieties - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah/Shiraz
- Food and wine matching: the key considerations when matching food and wine successfully
- Wine service and storage: how to store and serve wine and how to spot common wine faults
The course includes tastings of 9 delicious wines to show the variety of styles produced and the differences between them, plus a practical food and wine pairing exercise.

Course includes:
Tuition: 1 full day classroom session with a professional WSET-certified tutor
Wines: tasting of 9 wines
Examination: a 45 minute, 30 question multiple-choice paper. A mark of 70% is required to pass
Certificate and Badge: successful students will receive a WSET certificate suitable for framing and an official WSET lapel pin
