Course Description
Let's not talk about 'Old World' vs 'New World' - did you know that winemaking dates back as far as the C16th in some non-European countires? Let's talk instead about what makes Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Argentina and the USA such reliable (and hugely popular) sources of quality wine.
Free from many of the constraits imposed on European winemakers, these are the places where new ideas and approaches can bring innovation and excitement - and some pretty delicious wines. From easy drinking gluggers to wines as refined, complex and age-worthy as any from France, we'll look at the wines that can't be found anywhere else.
We're not just talking Argenitian Malbec or Aussie Shiraz (although there will certainly be lovely examples to try!) Across 4 weeks you'll taste Hunter Valley Semillon, aromatic Torontes and South Africa's signature Pinotage, and many more.
We'll also circle back and return to Europe and where it all started, in a final session covering the ancient wine producing countries of Georgia, Lebanon and Greece.
The second 4 weeks of our popular World of Wine course make a great stand-alone introduction to wine. Through tasting 25 wines (with retail prices around £8-£30) from across the globe you'll learn how diverse countires around the world have established strong reputations for their wines and have crafted distinct national identities.
In a relaxed and informal environment you'll have plenty of opportunity to ask everything you ever wanted to know about wine. We'll soon have you tasting like a pro, and ready to tell family and friends the countires to look for for the best Chardonnay, Chenin or Sauvignon Blanc!
We'll tell you where to buy all the wines tasted, and recommend food pairings for each.

Wine is produced in every state in the USA, but it's California, Oregon and Washington where the action is. Meanwhile, in South Africa, innovation is driving the country's wines forward like never before. Come and taste some of our favourites!
These South American giants are producing ever more interesting and individual wines. Alongside Argentinian staple Malbec, there's aromatic Torrontes and Cabernet Franc, while Chile offers up Carmenere and characterful Sauvignon Blanc.
Chardonnay, Shiraz and many more have found a welcome home Australia, where they've forged a strong identity and distinct regional styles. The same is true for New Zealand, where Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are simply not to be missed!
Boasting a winemaking history going back thousands of years, Georgia, Lebanon and Greece have had a very long time to perfect their craft! Using traditional techniques and native grape varieties, the resulting wines are fascinating and unique.
