Event Description

The final stop on our World of Wine course brings us right back to the beginning, to the countries with the longest history of winemaking.

We'll begin our journey back in time in Armenia, home to the world's oldest winery, discovered in 2007 and over 6,000 years old!

Then on to Georgia, a country that still using winemaking techniques that have been in use for millennia and which is currently experiencing a surge in popularity in the UK. We'll show you why! Whether it's an orange wine aged underground in clay qvevri or a red from one of the many native grape varieties rarely found elsewhere, the wines of Georgia will surprise, challenge and charm you.

We'll taste wine from Lebanon, a country where winemakers make wines in tragically challenging circumstances, and then head to Greece where the sheer number of amazing wines being produced - red, white, dry, sweet, sparkling - presents us with a huge challenge in choosing just one or two to share with you.

This evening tasting is a great opportunity to taste wines from lesser- known grape varieties and wine regions and to ponder the important role that wine has played in human existence for thousands of years.
