Event Description
Come and discover two of Europe's lesser-known winemaking regions.
Romania's wine story is extraordinarily mixed; the land is a melting pot of historical cultures: the Greeks, Hungarians, Austrians and Ottoman Turks have all had a hand in Romania's political past and yet wine making has flourished, uninterrupted.
Today, Romania's Latin cultural roots and Romance language mean wine has a strong influence in their lifestyle - both in terms of wine-making and consumption; they export around 11% of production!
Slovenia is a small country but it packs a punch when it comes to wines! Their winemaking history dates back to the Middle Ages and post-Yugoslavia, Slovenia has emerged as a strong country with a clear wine identity but with well-established roots to it's traditional past - the use of Slovenian oak for their barrels is a good example.
The wine scene is dominated by a mix of international and indigenous varieties meaning there is something for everyone: classic "European" style wines from the international grapes and intriguing, complex wines from their indigenous grapes. A wonderful wine-making country that is well worth exploring in more detail.
The tasting is co-hosted with Andrew from Solaris Wines and will include a tasting of 6 wines with some cheese and crackers.
