Event Description
For many people, central Spain is just about tilting at windmills, but there's nothing quixotic about the wines that are being made there these days. Laura (head tutor) and Laura B (of top wine merchant Enotria) went out there to discover some of the brilliant wines being made there by innovative winemakers who are redefining what this region is capable of, and now you get to taste it at this fascinating tasting.
You'll taste at least 12 wines, plus a couple with your 2-course meal (courtesy of the Cross Keys, where fresh, seasonal food is king). As an idea of the kinds of things that will be offered:
- an exploration of the wines of Bodegas Verum, including their 'Ulterior' range, which returns to traditional methods (like ageing wines in amphorae) and unusual grape varieties to imagine the future of Spanish wine (spoiler, it's absolutely delicious - these wines are lush!)
- new projects from Verum head winemaker Elias Lopez in Rioja and Patagonia
- Chardonnay and an incredible Monastrell (Tim Atkins' 'Find of 2023') from Bodegas Cerron
- A special chance to taste Fondillon at the end - a delicious and incredibly rare sweet red wine which is a little like fine aged port, a little like top-quality sherry, and absolutely delicious!
This one is going to be delicious - you'll love what the Men and Women of La Mancha have been bottling!
