Event Description
Join us to discover more about this noble grape variety with a Jekyll and Hyde complex!
Originally born somewhere between the Alps and the Rhône River, today Syrah come in many different guises. The Australians have taken this grape to their heart, so much so that they renamed in Shiraz. Two delicious styles from this one great grape.
French Syrah tends to be medium bodied with earthy flavours which hint at leather or smoked meat. It’s often a savoury wine with hints of black olive and only deft touches of oaky spice.
South Australian Shiraz is altogether a more bombastic beast! Full-bodied, plenty of alcohol and tannin, it fills your mouth with flavours of blackberry, stewed plum and a hit of warming black pepper.
How are these different styles achieved? Which do you prefer?
But joining our tasting line up will be plenty of wines which are neither Northern Rhône Syrah, nor Barossa Shiraz. Taste your way through examples from South Africa, North America and New Zealand. By the end of the evening, in answer to the question ‘Syrah or Shiraz?’ we are sure you’ll agree the best option is always BOTH!
