Event Description
Join us for the tastiest date at YWS! A glorious Fish and Chip Supper from The Fisherman's Wife will be served alongside a tasting of 6 perfectly picked wines. Starting with classics like Picpoul and Albariño, we'll finish with both a Premier Cru and a Blanc de Blanc Champagne.
Our Fish and Chip Supper tastings have been one of our most popular events through the years, and we are SO happy that they are back!
Your evening will consist of two parts:
Approx 7pm-7.45pm tutored tasting of 6 wines which pair like a dream with Fish and Chips. We'll show you how to taste wine like a pro, teach you the principles of food and wine pairing and introduce you to each wine. Some of our past faves include...
- Picpoul de Pinet (the quintessential Southern French seafood wine)
- Albariño (in Galicia they pair this wine with deep fried calamari- it's fabulous with fish!)
- Sauvignon Blanc (it doesn't matter if it's from New Zealand, Chile or France, Savvy B is just fab with fish and chips!)
- Muscadet Sevre et Maine (they know a thing or two about seafood in Nantes, trust us, this pairs like a dream with seafood)
- Riesling (like a squeeze of lemon over the crispy batter, this grape variety is a go-to for all fatty foods)
But we are firmly of the opinion that, however good these white wines are with Fish and Chips, the wine to top them all is Champagne! To test our theory, we'll be serving up two Champagne in your line up of 6 wines. A rich biscuity Premier Cru Champagne AND a super fresh and dry Blanc de Blanc Champagne will round off our tasting.
Approx 7.45pm-9pm we'll tuck into our Fish and Chips and mushy peas - a delicious takeaway from The Fisherman's Wife. Which wine works best?
These evenings offer a lot of fun, a lot of laughs and best of all... a lot of tasty food and wine! If you are keen to learn a little more about wine and food pairing but would appreciate a more relaxed and casual approach then this is the tasting for you!
