Event Description
An exciting new accredited course, a must-do for lovers of French wine, a chance to dive deeper into the fascinating region of Bourgogne! Enjoy a superb range of wines, tasted in a classroom environment and complemented with specially designed resources supplied by the BIVB (the authority responsible for promoting the wines of Bourgogne).
This course will run over two Sundays: 24th November and 1st December from 10.30am to approx 4.30pm
After Laura's study programme to become an official Certified Ambassador for the Bourgogne Wine Board in the summer of 2023, we are excited to share the fruits of her labour!
This exclusive course has been designed to enhance the existing study material which is offered to wine professionals who wish to specialise in this fasinating region. As a student of the Wine School you will have access to exactly the same resources, but you will also benefit from 10 hours of classroom time further explaining the extensive theory material, plus tutored tasting of 15 - 17 wines a day, bringing to life the range of grapes, styles and terroir which Bourgogne boasts.
We will, naturally, study the different subregions of Bourgogne; Chablis, the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise, and finally the Mâconnaise. We will examine the key grape varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir up close. But expect to learn a good deal more abour Bourgogne than your typical wine course would offer. We will shine a spotlight on the lesser-known varieties- expect to taste plenty of Aligoté and Gamay! We shall explore the lesser appreciated terroir of Auxerrois, the Hautes-Côtes and the Couchois. This course will truely give you an insider's view on Bourgogne!
We are hard at work curating the wines for this course, aided by the Bourgogne Wine Board (the authority who oversee the promotion of this region), who are supporting us to help create the best and most comprehensive journey through this special place.
At the end of the course you will have to complete your exam to be awarded the certificate and accreditation from the BIVB.
Prerequisites to Studying
As some of the examinable material won't be covered in class, it is important that you have a device, such as a tablet, laptop or desktop computer where you can complete your study at home and benefit from the online resources which will be shared with you.
This course is not recommended for someone who is new to the wonderful world of wine study! We offer a range of courses which are perfect introductions such as WSET Levels 1 or 2 or even French Wine Scholar. To get the most out of this specialist course, we recommend you complete one or both of these first so that you have a great grasp of the fundementals of viticulture and vinification.
