Event Description
Over 4 weeks we will explore the Rhône Valley, tasting red, white and rosé wines from the southern and northern Rhône.
We will taste (subject to final confirmation of stock levels):
Week 1 – Rhône Whites from north and south
Crozes-Hermitage Blanc Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Rousset 2020 £14.50 (reduced from £17) – low yielding old Marsanne vines. Fermented and aged in barrel.
Ventoux 'Quintessence' Blanc, Chateau Pesquié 2021 £17.00 (reduced from £20) - A complex and rich-tasting white made from 80% Roussanne with 20% Clairette, partly aged in egg-shaped vats.
Week 2 – Rhône Rosé the best in the world?
Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Séguret Rosé Soubois, Domaine de Mourchon 2022 £13.50 (reduced from £17) - A substantial rosé from Syrah and raised in oak barrels
Tavel Cuvée Prima Donna Rosé, Domaine Maby 2022 £14.50 – A classic deep-pink, full-bodied Rhône rosé.
Week 3 – Southern Rhône Reds: Great value Syrah and Grenache from lesser known appellations
Duché d'Uzès Les Perrasières, Domaine Camp Galhan 2022 £12.50 - A delicious Syrah from vineyards at the western edge of the Rhône Valley.
Plan de Dieu, Les Terres Saintes, Domaine la Manarine 2020 £14.95 - Rich-tasting, full-bodied Rhône red made from pure Grenache.
Week 4 – Northern Rhône Reds: Cornas and St Joseph compared
Saint-Joseph Les Royes Rouge, Domaine Courbis 2020 £25 (reduced from £30) – from a terrifyingly steep vineyard close to the border with Cornas
Cornas Les Terres Brulées, Domaine Lionnet 2017 £29 (reduced from £37) – from a wife-and-husband team working on a tiny plot and making a very pure, expressive and fruity Cornas.
Some of the wines are included in The Wine Society’s January sale and so represent particularly good value. I will contact the Society to confirm stock levels before confirming the final line-up the week commencing 15th January. Total case cost subject to availability £140.95.
I am happy to order and arrange delivery of the wines for anyone not a member of The Wine Society.
Click to join the course and I will email you in January to confirm the final line up of wines.
