Wines of the month – February
This month we are having a look at some great deals on wines made from Grenache.
Tesco Finest – McLaren Vale Grenache 2021 – £9.75 Clubcard Price
This a real star – full of fresh red fruits with spicy notes of white pepper and cinnamon. It has an earthy quality and it all combines really well to provide a long finish. Well worth the money.
Es Lo Que Hay Garnacha, Calatayud 2020 Wine Society £12.5 down from £14.50 while stocks last
In Spain Grenache is know as Garnacha and this particular wine is from a rising star region in north Spain called Calatayud. Here garnacha makes wines with spice and dark fruit flavours and importantly with wonderful acidity and structure which means the wines can age well.
Remy Febras Ventoux 2020 – Waitrose – £7.99, £2 off until 27/2/24
Grenache is often used in blends to add its classic red fruit flavours of cherry, strawberry and raspberry to the finished wine. This version is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre – a typical Rhone blend. It is medium bodied, well balanced and packed full of fresh fruit flavours such as cherry, raspberry and notes of fresh herbs. The tannins are lovely and soft and it has surprisingly long finish.
