White - Fonte do ouro, Dâo, 2022

Wine Society - £9.75 from £10.95 - Winter clearance sale

We appreciate that you may be drawn to warming reds at this time of year but a glass of a delicious white never goes amiss. This is a lovely wine from Portugal, made from local varieties encruzado and arinto. It is unoaked, dry, fresh and notes of citrus, apple, pear and melon. It pairs really well with fish and seafood.

Red - Specially Selected South Africa Shiraz 2021

Aldi - £6.29 from £7.19

Amazing value for a lovely wine. Whilst it does not have the depth and body we would expect from a Shiraz from the Barossa it is surprisingly robust and has those lovely jammy, dark fruits, a touch of vanilla and the distinctive black pepper finish. Well worth picking up a couple of bottles while you can!

Red - Esprit des Trois Pierres Costiéres de Nîmes 2021

Waitrose - down to £7.49 from £9.99 until 30/1/24

We love the wines from the Southern Rhone. The lovely warm climate adds a richness to the wines, just what we want at the moment. This wine is made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre which are harvested at optimum ripeness from old vines. Pepper spice mingles with dark fruit flavours and it has a lovely floral aroma. The tannins are soft and silky and it makes a perfect match for roast lamb or vegetable stuffed and roasted peppers.
