The most sought-after award amongst wine schools worldwide - over 600 wine schools in 66 countries compete for this trophy - but there is only one winner.
formerly known as Foundation, Level 1 is an entry level qualification providing a straightforward introduction to wine. A great course for those wanting to taste & recognise the main grape varieties, & explore food and wine matching. It is also ideal for boosting the confidence of new or inexperienced front line staff in the hospitality and retail sectors
formerly known as Intermediate, Level 2 is ideal for those who have a serious interest in wine, and wish to broaden their knowledge in a structured way. It is also intended as vocational training for those employed in the drinks industry who have little previous knowledge of the broad range of alcoholic beverages available. The qualification is suitable wherever a good level of product knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies. PS - you do not need to take Level 1 before enrolling on this Level 2 course - Level 2 is an ideal introductory wine course.
formerly known as Advanced, Level 3 is suitable for Wine enthusiasts who wish to learn about wines and spirits in a rigorous and structured manner, and gain an internationally recognised wine and spirit qualification. Also aimed at people employed in the drinks and hospitality industries in a supervisory capacity, needing core information to advise management and customers with authority and make informed selections of wines and spirits.
"A big thanks to all our Local Wine School WSET Programme Providers whose contributions made this award possible. Without their consistent efforts & excellent performance we could not have delivered these award-winning results."
Chris Powell. Local Wine School founder/MD
"The Judging Panel were unanimous in their decision to award Chris Powell the Riedel Trophy for WSET Educator of the Year 2015... I was personally very pleased with this decision, as Chris has an excellent track record in converting wine enthusiasts into dedicated WSET students, and he has achieved a superlative pass-rate since starting as an Approved Provider of WSET Programmes."
Ian Harris. WSET Chief Executive. Jan 2016
"Riedel have continually sought to be innovators in our field. We believe that education is key to innovation, hence our sponsorship of this prestigious award. This year Chris demonstrated his passion for education at all stages of a customer's journey into the world of wine and thoroughly deserves to be this year's winner. All at Riedel wish Chris and the Local Wine School network continued success. Thank you Chris."
Matt Knight. UK Business Manager, Riedel UK. Jan 2016
Each year the WSET selects the TOP 1% of Level 3 Award graduates to compete for a WSET Scholarship
In 2014 nearly 20% of these Scholarship nominees graduated from a Local Wine School WSET course
Our tutors are amongst the highest-performing WSET trainers in the UK, and our students enjoy well above average exam results
We are very proud of our West London Wine School (run by Jimmy Smith) nominated as Riedel WSET UK Educator of the Year 2014 and again in 2012, only a tiny number of companies were selected from hundreds of WSET educators around the world for this prestigious award. The criteria set by the WSET judges - awarded to individuals or companies who - "have made a significant contribution to WSET courses and qualifications in the past year, and who have achieved superlative results in WSET programmes whilst demonstrating commitment and innovation in education."
