ONLINE: Valpolicella Masterclass: Amazing Amarone - Monte dall'Ora

Amarone from Valpolicella is one of the great wines of Italy, yet many can be overworked and leave you a little let down. This is not the case with the magnificent wines of Monte Dall'Ora! Their Stropa Amarone has been a firm favourite of ours for many years and this in-depth masterclass with owner and winemaker, Alessandra, and her son, Saverio, will give us a unique insight into one of the most exciting cellars in the "Valley of Many Cellars", Valpolicella.

WLWS founder & Chief taster, Jimmy, and wine buyer, Matt, visited the beautiful Monte Dall'Ora back in 2022 and were bowled over by the purity and freshness offered at this under-the-radar domain.

Monte dall’Ora is the creation of Carlo Venturini and his wife Alessandra Zantedeschi, both originally from winemaking families with a long history in Valpolicella, and in 1995 they decided to embark on a new and pioneering project. Their goal being to produce wines that represent the totality of their location rather than just a vineyard site, Monte Dall'Ora vineyards are located in one of the most beautiful areas for viticulture in the Valpolicella Classico area, on the Castelrotto hill, where vines have been farmed and wine made since the 5th Century.

Having worked organically since the estate’s birth in 1995, they decided to convert to biodynamics in 2006: vine roots penetrate deep into the rich subsoil, biodiversity is treasured and, surrounding the vines, you'll find aromatic herbs, cherry trees and olive groves. In Valpolicella this is somewhat of a rarity and it's clear that this has taken this estate's wine to the next level. This will be a fascinating tasting with some incredibly pure and terroir-specific wines.
