Event Description
Canada is producing some world class wines these days, the only problem is, they're very tough to track down!
Here at West London Wine School, we've done the hard work for you, and following on from a recent chance meeting at the world's biggest wine fair (Prowein, Germany), we've managed to get one of Canada's most accomplished, legendary wine making teams to come to us, for one night only.
Thomas Bachelder and his wife Mary Delaney have produced high-quality, cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in three regions – France, Canada and the US – since 2009. They have now returned to their roots and are fully focused on making wine in Niagara and raising the profile of this region.
Years of making Chardonnay – in hallowed areas including Meursault and Corton-Charlemagne – have taught Thomas to be as low intervention as possible in his winemaking. Pressing of the grapes is therefore very gentle and fermentation is carried out with wild yeasts. Malolactic fermentation takes place in specially selected oak barrels, followed by an extended ageing period which makes the wines more integrated and elegant.
As a long-time admirer of Beaujolais, Thomas also makes some incredible, delicious Gamay so you'll be treated to their `Wismer-Foxcroft` Gamay, as well as some top wines from Le Clos Jourdanne, another of Canada's best producers, where Thomas is also the head winemaker.
This will be a fantastic evening, with some of the best wines coming out of Canada, as well as unparalleled insight, from one of the country's best winemakers.
