Event Description
We are really looking forward to this unique evening with Etna expert, Benjamin Spencer, owner of Etna Wine School, featuring incredible Etna DOC wines with insights from his new book, The New Wines of Mount Etna - which will be available to buy signed on the evening.
Ben will bring us all bang up-to-date with all things vinous from this incredible volcanic wine region, while tasting typical Etna DOC wines from each DOC category - as soon as we get the wines, they will be put up on the site:
Etna Spumante DOC (TBC): white or rosé vintage Metodo Classico sparkling wines from Nerello Mascalese
Etna Bianco DOC: based on the Carricante grape
Etna Bianco Superiore DOC: bianco that carry Superiore status are based on Carricante exclusively from the contrade around Milo, on the eastern slope of the volcano
Etna Rosato DOC & Etna Rosso DOC: based on Nerello Mascalese, with Nerello Cappuccio as the most important blender for pink and red wines
Etna Rosso Riserva DOC: Etna Rosso that must be aged for a minimum of four years, with at least one year in wood and one year in bottle before going to market
Etna Wine School was founded in 2011 out of curiosity and a profound affinity for Mount Etna's unique volcanic wines.
Since then, our connection to the Etna community and Etna wine lovers from around the world has grown exponentially.
In 2020, The New Wines of Mount Etna was published and we launched our online courses for distance learners who cannot travel to the volcano.
Benjamin Spencer is the Director of Etna Wine School and author of The New Wines of Mount Etna. In addition to holding a Diploma from the London-based Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Ben is a journalist, wine judge, and a professional winemaker with two decades of experience working with artisan and internationally traded wine brands in California and Italy.
