Event Description
Join Jimmy Smith, WLWS founder and owner, for a wonderful evening exploring the diversity on offer from Gavi, a key white wine region in NW Italy.
The tasting, hosted by Jimmy, will take a deep dive into history, geography, culture, geology, climate, weather, grapegrowing and winemaking. Gavi is a popular wine style in the UK but your eyes will be opened to the complex landscapes and personalities that help craft this iconic wine. The tasting will feature TEN hand-picked wines, designed to show the diversity of this famous wine region.
Gavi DOCG
Gavi, a DOCG from 1998, is one of the most famous and appreciated Italian white wines. It is a white wine produced in the Alto Monferrato in the southern part of the province of Alessandria, Piemonte, bordering with Liguria and made exclusively from Cortese grapes cultivated in the town of Gavi and surrounding 10 villages, from which it takes its name. Some wines from here are labelled Gavi di Gavi (or Gavi del comune di Gavi), and some simply just Gavi - the reasoning behind this lies in the vineyards' locations. A Gavi di Gavi (or Gavi del comune di Gavi) wine indicates that the vineyards from which the grapes come are located within the borders of the town of Gavi itself - the centre of tradition and cultural significance here. Wines labelled simply as Gavi are made from grapes grown within the appellation area but outside the town of Gavi.
