Event Description
Dive into Italy’s deep south at this exclusive Wine Scholar Guild masterclass exploring the compelling wine regions of Calabria and Sicily. This evening shines a spotlight on two of Italy’s most ancient, mythical and culturally rich corners — where dramatic landscapes, indigenous grapes and millennia of influence meet in the glass.
Part of the Wine Scholar Guild curriculum, this session forms a single evening of the Italian Wine Scholar – Unit 2 program, making it the ideal introduction for anyone thinking about stepping into structured study. This class explores the toe and the island of Italy — regions defined by rugged coastlines, mountain viticulture, active volcanoes, layered histories and a renaissance of artisanal winemaking. Ideal for wine lovers or those considering the full qualification, the evening offers a captivating window into the depth and originality that the Wine Scholar Guild curriculum encompasses.
Please note that this session is not suitable for students currently enrolled in the Italian Wine Scholar Unit 2 course. It may also provide limited new content for those who have already completed the program, though returning alumni are warmly welcome to revisit these regions through tasting.
You’ll enjoy a guided tasting showcasing the distinctive character of each territory. Sample the bold, sun-drenched reds of Calabria, including Gaglioppo from Cirò and rare local varieties, alongside the extraordinary diversity of Sicily — from the fresh, saline whites of its coastlines to the elegant, mineral-driven expressions born on the slopes of Mount Etna.
Whether you’re considering embarking on the full Italian Wine Scholar Guild program or simply eager to explore the far south of Italy’s wine map, this evening promises an evocative and flavour-filled journey.
