Event Description

Once passed only to the left, prescribed to make the most pungent cheeses palatable and offered warmth to British commoners, judges and a thirsty prime minister before central heating, the rules on how Port should be drunk have changed a lot during its four centuries of history. As the days of ‘three-bottle men’ are long gone and the Bishop of Norwich is replaced with Game of Thrones, we will show you how and why Port remained as relevant as ever for the 21st century wine drinker!

To be prepared, click here for a short video to learn the top tips of professional Port drinking from a 5th generation winemaker in Porto. Adam from School of Port will return to West London Wine School and will help you discover where Port comes from, how it is made and most importantly: how to enjoy it like a true #portgeek.

School of Port is an educational initiative for wine professionals and wine lovers, created in 2020 by the port-mad people at Symington Family Estate to share the wonders of port and the Douro. They are the first port (sorry, pun intended) of call for anyone who wants to learn essential port knowledge and navigate more confidently around this complex wine category with relevant knowledge straight from the source: a family that is involved in making and selling port wine for 5 generations. Thousands of people have already enjoyed the short videos, interviews, expert Q&A’s, video courses and exams, all available on their website for free: https://schoolofport.com

Adam Odor is a London-based certified port wine educator, who got his WSET Levels 2 and 3 from WLWS under the tutelage of Jimmy. He worked with Davy’s and Majestic in the past and he runs tastings and masterclasses as the Ambassador and Leading Portgeek for School of Port in the UK.
