Event Description
This is a family story that began in Mendoza in the 1950s, when Alberto “Tito” Zuccardi arrived and started experimenting with irrigation to conquer the desert. In 1963, he planted the family’s first vineyard - initially to demonstrate his irrigation ideas, but it sparked a passion for viticulture that has now carried through three generations.
Today, grandson Sebastián Zuccardi is at the helm and he will be at West London Wine School with Jimmy Smith to host this tasting. His approach is all about place. Rather than simply asking “What grape variety is this?”, Sebastián asks “Where did it come from?” — exploring the extraordinary diversity of soils, altitudes and microclimates across the Uco Valley.
Zuccardi work with vineyards that sit at more than 1,000m above sea level, right at the foot of the Andes. Cold, dry conditions, intense sunshine and huge day-to-night temperature swings help produce grapes with freshness, concentration and remarkable purity. The winery itself is built in Paraje Altamira. It looks less like a conventional winery and more as if it has grown out of the mountain landscape — using stone from the estate, materials from the nearby Tunuyán River and imposing concrete vats inspired by the surrounding Andes.
We would love you to join us for an incredible opportunity to taste with Sebastián Zuccardi - Expect altitude, terroir, mountain freshness, stories and some seriously exciting Argentine wines.
