Event Description
The distinctive and storied wines of Rioja are considered by many as Spain’s best. Though historic, this is a dynamic and vibrant wine-growing region. Experience Rioja’s evolution firsthand as you enjoy exclusive tastings and discover new trends.
They also make white wines - we'll be tasting one of these. Just so you're not surprised on the night.
Within Rioja, there are some traditional bodegas (wineries) that have produced wine through the generations and typically craft their product in a more rustic and old-school expression. Whilst traditional Rioja often steals the limelight, modern Rioja is crafted often from young estates or those that have adapted their grape-growing and winemaking processes.
We will explore the traditional and modern styles of wine being created in this historic region.
Rioja
Rioja creates age-worthy at the same level as the wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, yet it flies under the radar compared to its more well-known peers.
Luckily for us, this means that a stunning bottle of age-worthy Rioja can be procured for far less than a similarly rated bottle of Bordeaux or Burgundy. Rioja wine takes its name from the Rioja region where it is produced, itself named after the river Oja.
Rioja is made from a blend of grape varieties, with Tempranillo being the dominant grape. Garnacha is typically included in the blend to add some fruitiness; Mazuelo (also known as Cariñena) and Graciano may also be included.
This evening is suitable for all levels of wine knowledge!
This event will include tasting samples of six carefully selected wines, wine notes & handouts, and a 2-hour interactive presentation, with Q&A, led by our wine tutor.
All our courses can be purchased as a gift either as a dated or undated voucher.
