Tastings are generally hosted by Jonny Tyson who has spent most of his career working in wine and beer. Having fallen in love with wine thanks to his vine-growing grandparents in Chianti, Jonny worked with Oddbins in Fulham and moved to Vancouver, Canada where he became a manager and buyer for various fine wine and craft beer specialist. He worked and managed restaurants with a focus on wine and craft beer, achieving his WSET Diploma and Court of Master Sommeliers Sommelier certification. On returning to the UK he became a WSET certified educator and assessor teaching courses and staff trainings to a wide variety of clients. He then expanded his skills to teaching beer as co-creator and head tutor of the Beer Professional Education and Training (BPET) program. After qualifying as a Beer Sommelier (IBD Beer Academy) and becoming the first Advanced Cicerone® in Europe he continued his wine studies passing the French Wine Scholar and Spanish Wine Scholar from The Wine Scholar Guild with highest honours.
Jonny has a passion for engaging education that puts students at ease with the subject. He believes that the world of specialist knowledge is not the preserve of an exclusive clique, but should be open and accessible for everyone with an interest. Most of all, whether just tasting or studying for an exam, wine should be fun!
Jonny is a regular judge at the World Beer Awards and the International Beer Challenge and was nominated Imbibe Magazine Educator of the Year in 2018
