October 2nd: The Ancient Vines of Italy
Our Old Vine Masterclass last year was a great success, with a selection of eight wines from around the world illustrating the complexity and character achieved using grapes from ancient gnarled vines.
We’re very happy to be working with the estimable Old Vine Project again in 2026, and this time we’re focusing on just one country – Italy. Given that Italy has been producing wine for centuries, and is topped only by Spain in the area devoted to vineyards, it’s no surprise that the country has several plots of old vines.
We’re still to determine the eight-wine line-up, but be assured that there’ll be representation from several parts of the country, some of them famous, some of them less well-known.
November 11th: An Italian Masterclass with Michael Palij MW
We’re very pleased and honoured to be joined for an evening of Italian wines by Master of Wine Michael Palij. Michael moved from his native Canada in 1989, passed the strenuous MW exams in 1995 and over the past 30 years has built his company Winetraders into one of the UK’s premium sources for Italian wines.
We’ll post the line-up of wines here as soon as we have it, but you can expect representation from throughout the country, including (probably) some Timorasso, a grape that was once close to extinction but which is now seen as one of the finest white grapes not just in its native Piedmont but in them whole of Italy. Michael can take much of the credit for the revival of Timorasso and other lesser-known Italian grapes, and also in bringing several top Italian estates to the attention of wine lovers in the UK and beyond. Whatever the line-up, it’ll be a fascinating one!
