Christmas Bordeaux Bonanza – a tasting of Cru Bourgeois Wines

The Crus Bourgeois are a family of châteaux located in eight famous red wine districts on what is known as the Left Bank of Bordeaux: Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Listrac-Médoc, Moulis-en-Médoc, Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Julien, and Saint Estèphe. This is the part of Bordeaux where Cabernet Sauvignon performs at its best, although most of the wines also include Merlot, Cabernet Franc and occasionally other grapes.

The classification of Crus Bourgeois, first produced in 1932, focuses solely on red wines, and excludes those that were not included in the 1855 Classification of Crus Classés, or Classed Growths. It’s a very happy hunting ground for those looking for value for money in Bordeaux, and we’re delighted to put on a tasting that will feature at least eight of the wines, including examples from Margaux, Listrac, Moulis and St Estèphe (the full list will appear here soon).

There’ll also be some fine Cheddar and charcuterie as accompaniment, and there’s a very good chance that we’ll finish the tasting with some Sauternes.
