Event Description
The story’s a great one, with proper local roots. Nearly 50 years ago, a young man called Paul Boutinot hired a van, drove to France and came back with a selection of wines for his parents’ restaurant. Bitten by the wine bug, and prompted by requests from other restaurants for some of this wine, he decided to set up as a full-time importer in that great wine haven of…Stockport.
The business grew, and with it grew a yearning in Paul to have his own vineyard with the potential to produce great wine with a definite sense of origin. In the early 2000’s, he found what he was looking for, not in France but on a windswept slope overlooking False Bay in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Waterkloof was born. Since then, the winery has gone on to win awards both for its wines and its architecture, and is also a shining light in the world of sustainability and organic farming.
We’re thrilled to be joined for this tasting by Paul’s son Louis who – like his father – splits his time between the UK and South Africa. And – again, like his father – he’s got plenty to say! Join us as he tells more of the Waterkloof story, and presents the following range of wines:
