Event Description
Join us on a Wonderful World of Wine tasting on fizz and sweet wines. Saving the best until last!
Part One – Sparkling Wines
‘The most prestigious side of the industry, led by the delicious Champagne but with plenty of exciting sparkling wines being made in other regions’ – Jonny Gibson, DipWest, IWS, FWS, SWS
Here we shall look at the various types of sparkling wine produced from two major methods (the traditional and tank methods) and match them with simple food. Of course we’ll taste Champagne, but we’ll explain the differences between an inexpensive (for Champagne) style against a vintage style. In addition we will talk about Cava and affordable fizz in the new world which is extremely worth factoring in as a comparison. And what about English sparkling wine which is made exactly the same way as Champagne? Tank method sparklers include the underrated Asti and the ever-popular Prosecco - both worth investigating. You will taste three different sparkling wines one of which will be champagne.
Part Two – Sweet Wines
‘Rich, textured, complex and fascinating; perfect to cap off a meal and a Wonderful World of Wine course’ – Jonny Gibson, DipWest, IWS, FWS, SWS
Dessert wines are created from a myriad of various methods ultimately producing a complex range of styles. You’ll learn about the classic noble-rot style with plenty of examples to select from such as Sauternes (matched with blue cheese), Jurancon and the Hungarian regal classic, Tokaji. In addition we'll talk about Port styles and the ultra-sweet Sherry, Pedro-Ximenez. You will taste three different sweet wines one of which will be a noble rot wine.
Your tasting will include: tasting samples of six carefully selected wines, light nibbles, full wine notes & handouts, 2 hour interactive presentation, with Q&A, led by our wine tutor.
