The colder months are a great time to try a more rich, robust style of red wine that warms the heart & soul! A great way to while away a Saturday afternoon!
Not only do these wines pair well with the time of year, but they go beautifully with the change in seasonal foods. Winter foods dominate and our meals take on a more earthy spicy character with game, mushrooms, slow roasted Pork, pumpkin & squash all taking centre stage. These more robust flavours need a punchier style of wine and, if you know where to look, there is a wine for everyone.
For this tasting, were focusing on the reds; the spicy blends from the Southern Cotes-du-Rhone are a joy at this time of year, along with high altitude Malbecs from Argentina and earthy Pinot Noirs from Oregon. Not to mention barrel-aged, smoky wines from Spain & the inky black, velvety wines from Cabernet Sauvignon.
