Event Description
Is it worth paying more for a wine, or just sticking to what you know? Compare two different wine styles from Spain (same grape, same region) at prices of around £7.50, £15 and £30 and see for yourself if the best turns out to be the most expensive!
Let's come together in the name of wine appreciation and discover where true value lies! Through our collective blind tasting and voting, we'll aim to unravel the mystery!
Along the way, we'll gain a deeper understanding of the art and science behind winemaking to uncover the secrets of the vineyard and winery!
Each bottle's price will be kept a mystery and, after tasting, we'll vote on whether it's the budget-friendly one or a more premium pour.
The two Spanish styles we will examine at the different prices are:
- Albarino from Rias Baixas
- Rioja at different levels
Albarino is an increasingly trendy wine to choose for those in the know! There is a high number of small producers in Rias Baixas, so prices can vary hugely - come and test the difference that lower yields and better sites make to the wines.
Rioja wines are a terrific case study for the benefits of ageing red wine. We'll select a single producer and pick out differences in their range, staying focused on whether or not each step up in price delivers a better taste.
Not only will you come away knowing more about those two Spanish wine styles, but you'll get to grips with wine-making economics and choice. And you'll have fun testing and developing your blind-tasting skills!
All our evening tastings include a minimum of 6 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, use of professional tasting glasses and a focus on food pairing.
