Event Description
What makes seemingly similar wines have vastly different price tags? Is it worth paying more, or sticking with what you know? Test your taste buds as we blind compare French wine styles at £7.50, £15 and £30 and see if we can spot the most expensive wine for each style!
Each bottle's price will be kept a mystery and after tasting them we'll vote on whether we think it's the budget-friendly bottle or the premium pour.
Join in the fun as we pool our votes before the grand reveal! Plus learn about the economics of winemaking to fully understand why one wine may be worth more than another (hopefully tasting better too).
The French wine styles we will examine for the evening are:
- Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley
- Red wines from Bordeaux
If you like Sauvignon Blanc, you're in for a treat as we try a Touraine, upgrade to a Sancerre and then roll out the carpet for a Sancerre at twice the price (because of the winemaking processes used).
For our Bordeaux wines, we'll try a Medoc before upgrading to a costlier version then finish with a Margaux at twice the price (from a famous estate).
Not only will you come away knowing more about those two French wine styles, but you'll get to grips with wine economics and understand how and why upgrading to a more expensive bottle should offer you more. And you'll have fun testing and developing your blind-tasting skills!
All our evening tastings include a minimum of 6 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, use of professional tasting glasses and a focus on food pairing.
