Event Description
Join us in Bristol city centre to take a closer look at Iberian wine-making!
There are so many changes going on in Spain and Portugal. These two countries have increasingly grabbed attention in the wine world.
There is more to Portugal than just Port! The cool areas on the north-west coast produce some intriguing white wines, while in the Douro Valley they have been exploiting the Port grapes to make robust, ripe, chocolatey table wines - often some of Europe's best value reds! And in the south we find Ribetajo, Alentejo and the Algarve, all capable of producing interesting and complex wines.
Spain also makes some interesting white wines such as fragrant Albarino from Galicia, with a peachy soft juiciness reminiscent of Chardonnay balanced by the crisp finish of a Sauvignon Blanc. And when it comes to reds does Rioja still rule the roost or can the region of Ribera del Duero knock it off its perch? We'll taste blockbusters from both along with some delicious home-cooked tapas of Chorizo and potato cooked in Fino sherry - let the showdown commence!
All tastings include: a minimum of 8 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, tasting sheet, use of professional tastings glasses, and a selection of nibbles to accompany the wines.
(Note, this evening is part of our 3-week Wines of Europe course - book the 3 evening course and save £15! It's flexible, so if you have to skip an evening let us know in advance and you can pick it up next time it runs).
All our courses can be purchased as a Gift either as a dated or undated voucher.
